On Friday I went to the British Inspiration Awards lunch at The Brewery in Chiswell Street.
The awards have been running for two years. Last years winners included Lee McQueen, Terence Conran, Elisabeth Murdoch, Nick Park, Glastonbury's Michael Eavis and Beatles producer George Martin.
This years winners included film director Danny Boyle, Charles Saatchi, UK Vogue Editor Alexandra Shulman, architect Zaha Hadid, Michael Grade, ASOS and a special recognition award to Harry Potter author J K Rowling.
As usual I bumped into lots of people I know
Richard Madeley presented the awards. I've known Richard for years as I worked for his boss at Granada in the nineties
Ed Marshall and John Hassay. John is a great friend of mine, he makes amazing pop videos and commercials
I love these two - Gail Porter and Saffron from Republica. I first met Saffron when we booked her band N Joi for a rave in 1990
Actor and presenter, the lovely Charley Boorman
Wall of Sound boss Mark Jones and Gail Porter
I sat next to my old friend Mr Jones, ex of my best mate Mrs Jones. I told him not to be stupid and let me take a good picture of him. Here's his reply. Sorry it's a bit blurred!
The food was exceptionally good, which is unusual for these type of events. Sadly I forgot to take pictures of the starter and main but we had Roasted beetroot with glazed goats cheese with blood orange jelly followed by Welsh rack of lamb with braised eschalot, fennel, poached potato and thyme jus. Mark had the veggie option as well as the lamb, which was Pumpkin and spinach polenta muffin with parsnip mash, candied silverskin onions and parmesan crisps.
Caramelised custard tart, lemon curd ice cream and custard macaroon - delicious
No one ate the petit fours so I got two lots, put them in my bag and took them home. They were amazing - Champagne truffles, rose truffles and some amazing jellies in plain chocolate.
In the evening my friend Daisy came over and we had Bloody Mary's in the garden. We were supposed to be going to a Birthday drink with John Hassay (above) but we were so late they all decided to come to my house after the pub closed so we ended up having an impromptu party which was brilliant fun and the music was excellent. I have to download a ton of new stuff to my iPod now, I love getting new music and my friends have amazing taste.
I didn't remember to take any pictures but here's a random one of Giles. Looks like he's calling for help. In case you're wondering the blue thing is my friend Frans' daughter's toy cash register.
I am so behind with blogging I'm having to backdate my posts. I had such a great night/morning on Friday but I was good for nothing on Saturday.
My friends must get tidier as they get older because usually when I have a party the house ends up looking like an episode of Skins! For once it wasn't too bad which was lucky as The Actor was arriving home from filming on Sunday.
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend xxx
