Friday quotes - Mick Jagger

Photography by David Bailey

"God gave me everything"

Mick Jagger
(b. 1943)

Mick Jagger needs no introduction, one of the most influential frontmen in the history of rock 'n' roll.  The lead singer of the Rolling Stones is a music legend.  And wasn't he gorgeous?!  Here are some of his quotes.

"I came into music just because I wanted the bread.
It's true. I looked around and this seemed like the only way
I was going to get the kind of bread I wanted"

"My mother has always been unhappy with what I do.
She would rather I do something nicer, like bricklaying"

"It's all right letting yourself go
as long as you can get yourself back"

"Lose your dreams and you might lose your mind"

"People love talking about when they were young and heard Honky Tonk Women for the first time.  It's quite a heavy load to carry on your shoulders, the memories of so many people"

"A lot of things have happened since 1966.
A lot of you were born"

"People have this obsession. They want you to be like you were in 1969. They want you to, because otherwise their youth goes with you.  It's very selfish, but it's understandable"

"People think they know you.
They know the things about you that you've forgotten"

"The new fashion is to talk about the most private parts of your life; to repent of your excesses and to criticise the drugs that made you happy in the other times"

"Anything worth doing is worth overdoing"

"Anarchy is the only slight glimmer of hope"

Marianne Faithfull

Jerry Hall

L'Wren Scott

"I should think that being my old lady
would be all the satisfaction or career any woman needs"

"The elusive nature of love... it can be such a fleeting thing.
You see it there and it's just fluttering and it's gone"

"All dancing is a replacement for sex"

With Jack Nicholson

With Amy Winehouse

"I haven't had the time to plan returning to the scene
because I never left it"

"Thank you for leaving us alone
but giving us enough attention to boost our egos"

With Dolly Parton

With Andy Warhol

[On media coverage]
"As long as my face is on page one
I don`t care what they say about me on page seventeen"

"I don't want to be a rock star all my life.
I couldn't bear to end up like Elvis Presley in Las Vegas with all those housewives and old ladies coming in with their handbags"

"I'd rather be dead than singing Satisfaction when I'm forty-five"

"Either we stay at home and become pillars of the community
or we go out and tour, but we couldn't find any communities that still needed pillars"

"A good thing never ends"

My god, I almost forgot how gorgeous he was! I bet he regrets saying "I'd rather be dead than singing Satisfaction when I'm forty-five" - um......

Hi Christina-wowser, a totally amazing tribute post, I love the photos, especially the ones with Jerry Hall and Bianca Jagger, he certainly is so fit and was very good looking back in the day!! Hope you have a great weekend, keep warm, its freezing, lol!! xx

My goodness, has Mr Jagger shoved our hamster down his trousies for a couple of these shots.

There's definitely a hamster in his pocket for one of them. I can tell by the way it's moving....

And as for that strategically placed microphone....I feel quite giddy.

What a guy! He's sort of grown into his mouth as he's got older, hasn't he?

Have a splendiferous weekend!

Oh Christina, is this going to be our first fight? I have always hated Mick, he seems like such an arrogant prick. "I should think that being my old lady
would be all the satisfaction or career any woman needs" *vomit*

I still love you though! xx

Haha! Margaret I think it was meant to be tongue in cheek but I can understand you taking that one the wrong way. I still would though! xx

So many great shots and marvelous quotes - never realized he had so many clever quips. But of course my favorite is "I'd rather be dead than singing Satisfaction when I'm forty-five"

Great post thanks Christina! I think A said it very well above - Mick has grown into his mouth - both literally and figuratively! What a sexy smart arse he is. Even with his old man mullet. I do adore the silver and black striped suit and the furry hood pics.

He's so not my type but I can absolutely see that he is sexy and hot as heck!! Great photos, in that first one he looks so like his son James. And I love the ones of him and Bianca, what a beautiful couple.

Been catching up on all your posts :)

Loved the Norfolk ones, funny cos I nearly went to Norfolk last week-end. You and The Actor do have fun, loved the places you stayed - altho I wouldn't have slept a week with those stuffed animals, OMG!!
Your Dad's garden was gorgeous tho, I could stay there quite happily :)

I did have a couple of LFW invitations for today but couldn't make it...and I am off to Italy at the beginning of next week.

Still haven't watched "Edward Scissorhands" but promise to report back when I do, maybe I'll take it to Italy with me. We stay in the middle of nowhere which is lovely apart from nighttime when, without the streetlights, I freak out a bit!! We can't go out because you have to drive down the mountains and to do that without streetlights, I'd have to be unconscious - or dead!!! I am definitely a city girl :)

Finally, I loved your Ava Gardner post - she was stunning, I love her.

Happy Week-end :) xx

Y'know,I get it...but I don't!! He does nothing for me,but I can see why he does it for so many! Musically,however-schwing! I love early Stones(who doesn't),but am not interested in them these days.
Some gorgeous pix you've found,I must say.Definetly a great frontman!!! He's SUCH a Leo!!!

Will I be chucked out if I admit that I don't like him (looks or personality) and can't bear the Stones either?

I enrolled one early September day at a then-all-male college in a mid-Atlantic state in America: hot and humid. All the windows in every dormitory (none of them air-conditioned, or appreciably heated for that matter) were wide open and all that you could see were naked torsos everywhere, indoors and out, with the loudest rampage one had ever heard, filling every quad, all from "High Tide & Green Grass," and I leave it to your imagination to improve on this initiation in the Humanities. We did our best, under the circumstances.

He obviously wasn't so intelligent or he would have never left Bianca. But good for her I guess. Look how active she is for the Environment.
