I hope this is Number One

I don't give a stuff about the charts these days.  For fear of sounding old I have to say I can't bear all these manufactured bands like JLS and the awful cheesy, pseudo dance tunes that get released (not to be confused with GOOD dance music, of course!).  The majority of the music that's in the charts today makes me feel sick.  There are some great bands out there but gone are the days when I worked in a record company and knew exactly what was going on in the music business, I have no clue anymore.  However, I do still know what's good and what's not.

I have always liked Adele very much as a person and an artist, she has great natural talent.  I blogged about her a while back HERE

I first listened to this track properly yesterday after reading about it on Jeanne's lovely blog and immediately bought the album 21 on iTunes.  Adele's new album is produced by Paul Epworth (Florence and the Machine, Friendly Fires, Plan B and Primal Scream).  It's great!  I wish I'd signed it!  According to the midweek figures it will be number one on Sunday, hopefully knocking off some of the absolute dirge that's out there.

Wouldn't it be good to have someone who can actually write their own songs, sing without a vocoder AND has some musical taste in the charts?  I hope so.  Or I really will have to go away and feel like an old dear!

I'm off to try and think of seven things I haven't already shared about myself for the Stylish Blogger Award (I don't want to bore everyone rigid!)

Agreed. Much better than pretty much anything out there right now. Apart from Duran Duran ;) - but I'm biased! xx

Dear Miss Peelpants, funny you should say that my boss at EMI signed Duran Duran. I worked with them later but I was at school when they were first signed. I know you'll approve of that one xx

She's got an amazing voice and am looking forward to getting this album (do we still call them that?) when I go back up to Glasgow on Saturday.

I really don't follow the charts at all, I am much more of an indie girl. Adele's voice is wonderful, like dark honey x

Me too - I've been listening to this non-stop lately! I also think Rolling in the Deep would have made a GREAT James Bond theme tune.

Oh nO! I was just about to tell you that I tagged you the award only to find out you've been tagged! :( Well, consider yourself double tagged! :)
I've been hearing praise all over for Adele, so I do have to check it out. Plus, you've also worked in a music industry!? Come on, is there anything awesome you haven't done?! :)

It is a gorgeous song and she has a fabulous voice. I haven't listened to the charts in years and tend to catch live music at festivals, shocking considering how much time and effort I used to invest in following bands around.
There's still loads of amazing Brit bands out there, Muse, Arctic Monkeys, Editors to name a few. xxx

Yet more evidence of your good taste! (It's very similar to mine so of course I think it's good, ha). I loved a couple of the songs on her last album, especially Hometown, but it seems like this could be that very rare beast, a second album that's better than the first.

Christina, I agree with you about the manufactured bands. Haven't we had enough of them already?
Great post, and I love this song.
