I love this headpiece from Zeigfield Girl, 1940

Tiara by Giorgio Sant Angelo, 1969

I love hats and headpieces so here's a little selection from the many picture folders I have squirrelled away all over my laptop.  I've been running around all day so no time to blog, but at least it's been lovely and sunny in London.  I hope it lasts.

I'm finishing a big interview I've done and there hundreds of pictures to sort through.  I hope it will be up in a day or so.  Have a lovely evening xxx

Red is the colour

Milla Jovovich

I love the colour red in clothes and accessories, it's one of the few colours I wear.  Here's a random selection of red pictures.

They are a little bit Galliano/Dior biased, but John uses red more than any other designer I can think of.  Red can be elegant, glamorous, sexy and dramatic, but never boring.

What's your favourite colour to wear?

Freja Beha for Moncler AW10

Photography by Steven Meisel

Here's the gorgeous Freja Beha Erichsen shot by Steven Meisel for Moncler's AW10 campaign.  I love this all cream look anytime of the year but especially for winter.

I wear a lot of cream.  The other day I dug out a pair of cream Joseph knitted leggings I've had for years but never worn.  They're almost identical to these.  I always knew if I kept them long enough I could wear them again.

I've washed all my cashmere this weekend too.  Of course the heavens opened as soon as I hung it out to dry.  Pretty much all my cashmere has been bought for next to nothing on Ebay.  I usually in the summer as not so many people bother then.  I bought a cream oversized v neck that I bought for 99p a few years back and it's in perfect condition. I have jumpers, cardigans, track suits, gloves, scarves, snoods, and socks.  Everything is either cream or black.  It's a shame I can't manage to keep my cream clothes spotless for long.  I always end up getting grubby or spilling something down myself!

Thank you Giles xxx

Frida Gustavsson for Giles SS10

My poor old Mac G4 laptop is nearly eight years old.  It's like a dear old lady and could slip off at any minute.  I would be lost without it.  I desperately need a new one but can't afford it at the moment.  For the last couple of days every time I try and do something I get what my friend Jo-Ann Furniss calls "the spinning wheel of death." So annoying!

This laptop has had a new screen (where I threw it at The Actor), a new keyboard (the letters had worn off the keys), a new hard drive and a new mother board, although I have no idea what that means... Basically the whole machine has been rebuilt apart from the casing which now is getting loose, not helped by the fact I used to cart it around all over London in a tatty old Prada holdall full of junk.  A few of it's screws came out and the even Mac shop couldn't get them back in.  It really is in a sad state.

Out of sheer frustration I called Giles, as I was in danger of throwing it out of the window earlier.  Luckily our friend technical wizard and photographer Lee Jenkins was round there...

Less than half an hour later this bag arrived...

Giles had very kindly sent me round his spare Lacie hard drive which Lee had sorted out for me, so thankfully I can now fix my poor laptop.  What a life saver!  I am so happy to be able to back it up at last.  I am ashamed to admit I have NEVER backed up my laptop in eight years... and it has my whole life on it.

I thought there were just computer leads in the bag but then these fell out!!  A gorgeous pair of cream snakeskin and tortoiseshell Louboutin's from his SS10 show, in my size, 39.  They still have model Frida's name sellotaped inside. Giles said he was tidying up and found them under a cushion!  As you do.

I tried to take a snap of them on.  The flash has made my legs look very white.

Natasha and Ingrid for Giles SS10

Here are the shoes in some very jazzy colours.  Giles gave our friend Annie a jade green and cream pair.  I don't own any kitten heels and these are lovely.  They're beautifully, comfortable and made and easy to walk in.  Marvellous!

Thank you so much, darling Giles xxx

Sunday music - The brilliant Adele

I went to see Adele at a small private gig before she was signed and her beautiful voice and pure natural talent blew me away.  She has a voice that gives you goose bumps and is one of the few singers who sounds exactly the same, or even better live.  You can't beat that raw energy.

I love her version of Bob Dylan's Make You Feel My Love.  It's such a beautiful song.  A lady did it on X Factor last night but it wasn't a patch on Adele.

Adele was nineteen when she made this album and has a voice way beyond her years.  She's also an absolutely lovely girl and a right laugh!  Adele is no diva like some of our other young stars, which I love about her.  I can't wait hear her next album commissioned by Rick Rubin and produced by the brilliant Paul Epworth which is due out later this year, and her collaborations with Mark Ronson.  What a great talent she is.

A very gentle song, perfect for a Sunday morning.  Enjoy xxx

Saturday night music - The fabulous Grace Jones

I love this!!

This is a tune Mrs Jones introduced me to as I hadn't really listened to much of Grace Jones' newest album.  We were jumping around my sitting room blasting this out.  I love this remix by Aeroplane, it's  amazing!

Bear with it, as it gets going Grace starts rocking out.  Listen to the end and play loud!
I absolutely love it.  What do you think?

Have a brilliant Saturday night xxx

Corinne Day RIP

Corinne Day

I was very sad to hear that renowned photographer Corinne Day died early this morning.  Corinne was struck down with a brain tumour thirteen years ago.  After undergoing extensive treatment it seemed the operations were successful, but sadly the condition returned two years ago

Corinne's revolutionary photographs of fourteen year-old Kate Moss catapulted Kate to stardom. Her intimate pictures hugely influenced the style of photography in the early Nineties and saw the birth of heroin chic.

Corinne, you will be missed xxx

Getting to know you tag

Ruth used a picture of Joanna Lumley as Patsy in Ab Fab for this post, so I shall do the same.  Here's a picture of the delightful Ms Lumley modeling in the Sixties

The gorgeous Ruth from Life, the universe and all that's in it has given me a 'getting to know you' tag.  I've answered some of the questions before, so for fear of boring you rigid I've chosen ten.  Although there are a few I'm always happy to wheel out again.

1)  What is your favourite time of day?
I'd love to say very early morning and I absolutely love it on the rare occasions I see it.  I mostly only see it if I'm still up!   I am a total night person.  I come alive at night. When I was a child my dad always said I should do night work.  Thanks for that dad.

My sitting room at night, empty for a change

2)  Where and when did you meet the love of your life?
I got together with The Actor on a stag night.  There were twenty nine actors...and me.  I wrote about it in another tag HERE

The Actor who prefers to remain anonymous on my blog.  I hope to be able to post some pics of him at some point

3) What three words would your friends outside the blogging world use to describe you?
I asked three of my friends who came over to give me a word each, this is what they said: Funny, glamorous and fabulous.  Bless them. What could they say when put on the spot?

I love this sort of glamour.  This is Sharon Tate, wasn't she beautiful?

4) What country would you like to visit and why?
I would love to go to Tibet.  Their relationship with the earth and animals is quite amazing.  I fell in love with it after watching a wonderful programme called Wild China.  It is the most beautiful piece of television I've ever seen. I blogged about it HERE.  If you haven't seen it... please do, you will love it!

5)  What is your favourite dish to cook?
It has to be a roast.  I'll cook any kind - beef, lamb, chicken, pork, pheasant.  It's like a competition how many different vegetables I can manage to get on the plate.  I am obsessed with eating vegetables.  The Actor loves vegetables and will eat whatever is put in front of him.  The record I've managed is fourteen one Christmas - Potatoes, carrots, parsnips, broccoli, cauliflower, butternut squash, brussels sprouts, cabbage, kale, courgettes, runner beans, broad beans, sugar snap peas and petit pois. I know it sounds bonkers!  Now he says "Don't go mad on the vegetables!  Three or four is enough!"  I also love to make risotto - my favourite comfort food.

6) Salt or sugar?
Both.  The two foods I could never give up are cheese and chocolate.  My favourite cheese is unpasteurised mature Canadian cheddar - apparently your body can break down unpasteurised cheese much better so you don't get so fat eating it - a plus point I'd say, especially as I eat so much of it.  Waitrose and Marks and Spencer's both do excellent ones.  My favourite chocolate is by L'Artisan du Chocolat.  I love their truffles flavoured with unusual things and the liquid salted caramels are divine.  Otherwise a bar of Green and Blacks seventy or eighty five percent cocoa or Maya Gold will do nicely.  I'd recommend the box of fifty six hand made chocolates from L'Artisan for £29 if you fancy treating yourself, it works out cheaper to buy more.  I've blogged about the chocolates HERE.

7)  What are your must have make-up or beauty items?
I'm addicted to Eve Lom Kiss Mix lip balm.  When I walk into my local Space NK the assistant takes two straight to the till.  I love Lancome Hypnose Drama mascara, My favourite was Amplicils but they discontinued it.  My eyebrows are fair so I look odd without them coloured in.  The best eyebrow pencils I've found are Laura Mercier or Chanel for blondes (not that I'm a natural blonde, of course).  I would be a dried up old prune without moisturiser.  I'm not fussy what make it is and I put it on by the bucket load at night.  The best value is No. 7 Protect and Perfect and Body Shop Vitamin C and Vitamin E range.  And they work.

8)  What are your favourite flowers?
I love orchids, white lilies - arum, calla or stargazer and roses of any colour.

Calla lillies by Tamara de Lempicka

9)  What do you think are your worst vices, honestly?
Telling the truth.  Is that a vice?  I tell it in a good way though.  Smoking roll ups.  Buying things on Ebay I don't need, mostly clothes.  I just can't resist a bargain... Wardrobe post coming soon.

Lana Turner.  I own lots of outfits like this... you have been warned

10)  At what time of your life were you happiest and why?
I'm happiest now. I think you get to know yourself so well after forty.  I've been extremely lucky in my life and I've had mostly very happy times and a hell of a lot of fun.

I earn less money than I've ever earned, but money is not important to me, people are.  I'm with a man I'm in love with, I have the most amazing group of friends and all of them are hilariously funny, which is always a bonus.

I've met someone who will be a friend for life in Ruth, we met through blogging (although we already had friends in common - my friend was Ruth's husband's first love) and I'm delighted to be seeing a lot of my best friend Fee Doran (Mrs Jones) after we lost touch pretty much for nine years.  The double act is back.  I really couldn't be happier. Don't all be sick now!

Ruth has already tagged some of the people I would have, so Fee, Dash, Ali, Santa, Kate, Sharron, Belle, Jill, Sharon you've been tagged already, unless you'd like to answer these questions?

I pass this tag onto the following blogs I love to read

Please take part if you wish, I'd love to hear your answers xxx
