Friday quotes - Cher

"A girl can wait for the right man to come along, but in the meantime it doesn't mean she can't have a wonderful time with all the wrong ones"

Cher
(b. 1946)

I love these vintage pictures of Cher.  I think she's an amazing, strong woman.  Cher's been around for so long, she's like an institution.  I also think she's a very good actress and I've really enjoyed her films particularly Moonstruck, Mask, Silkwood, Tea With Mussolini and Mermaids.  Here are some of my favourite Cher quotes.

"It's not necessary, in order to be a complete person, that I have man.  It's not the be-all and end-all of my life"

"Men aren't necessities, they're luxuries"

"The trouble with some women is they get all excited about nothing - and then marry him"

"Men should be like Kleenex, soft, strong and disposable"

"To me marriage is for five or ten years"

"I'm friends with all my exes, except my husbands"

Sonny and Cher

On Sonny "When they're gone you appreciate them.  That's why it's important for me to dedicate the book and album, because I can't remember what we were arguing about, and I bet he can't either"

"I'm scared to death of being poor.  It's like a fat girl who loses five hundred pounds but is always fat inside.  I grew up poor and will always feel poor inside.  It's my pet paranoia"

"I'm insecure about everything, because I'm never going to look in the mirror and see this blonde, blue-eyed girl.  That's my idea of what I'd like to look like"

"Nothing lifts me out of a bad mood better than a hard workout on my treadmill.  It never fails.  Exercise is nothing short of a miracle"

"I think the longer I look good, the better gay men feel"

"Yes, it's a man's world, but that's all right because they're making a total mess of it.  We're chipping away at their control, taking the parts we want.  Some women think it's a difficult task, but it's not"

"Women have to harness their power - it's absolutely true  It's just learning not to take the first no.  And if you can't go straight ahead, you go around the corner"

My favourite Cher outfit by Bob Mackie, 1974

"Women are the architects of society"

"If you really want something you can figure out how to make it happen"

"I've always taken risks, and never worried what the world might think of me"

"I don't like Bush.  I don't trust him.  I don't like his record.  He's stupid and he's lazy"

"If you're black in this country, if you're a woman in this country, if you're any minority in this country at all, what could possibly possess you to vote Republican?"

"Some years I'm the coolest thing that ever happened, and then the next year everyone's so over me, and I'm just so past my sell by date"

"I trust my friends.  They force me to examine myself and encourage me to grow"

"I won't be able to do what I'm doing forever.  There aren't that many scripts floating around for fifty year-old chicks"

"Until you're ready to look foolish, you'll never have the possibility of being great"

"You've probably noticed already that I'm dressed like a grown up... I apologise to the Academy and I promise never to do it again"

Cher
(b. 1946)

This post is for Kim Bowen and and Vix, (see more about her on the previous post).  Both of whom will totally appreciate Cher's words.  I also think Vix bears more than a passing resemblance to Cher xxx

Sadly Cher's face has not altered a day since her birth. She is frozen in time in a frightening way at 64. I wish she would "age" at least to 40.

Dear Christina, how brilliant! I've tried searching for Cher images on the net and didn't find hardly any of those. She's stunning, that see through dress and those long locks, what a beauty. Thank you for a making a horrid Friday morning into something fabulous. xxx

I'm surprised by her quotes. I've never really 'examined' Cher but she seems a total hero now after reading the quotes and fab images too.

Fantastic quotes, loved reading these Christina.

Gorgeous photos....love the 2nd one, well love lots of them really! It might be a silly question but at what age did she actually start having all the surgery - is photo 2 her original face?

She looks fabulous - I loved "Moonstruck", lovely film and she's just so good in it.

Thanks for your comment the other day, you made me smile :) xx

Dear Gaye, I preferred her original face and her nose had more character xx

Dear Vix, wasn't she a stunner! Glad I cheered you up. All my recent posts have been inspired by you xx

Dear Milanese Gal, thank you so much. I hope you have a wonderful weekend too xx

Dear Margaret, she's great isn't she and I think sometimes it's sometimes forgotten what a great personality she is too. So glad you liked it xx

Dear Kate, it was thinking that Vix was like her that inspired the post. She's great isn't she! xx

Dear Simone, I've ordered a copy of Moonstruck as I haven't seen it for donkeys years and my senile old granny memory will make me feel like the first time I've seen it!

The only picture that isn't pre-1978 is the colour one third from the bottom with the piebald horse. All the others are Sixties or Seventies. Hope you've had a lovely weekend. I can't believe we're still waiting for the snow! xx

Dear Cameron, I think she's underrated as an actress and a person. She's a great, strong woman. I hope all's good with you xx

Dear Fee, I knew that would be right up your street! Isn't she just. Miss you too! So glad I'll be seeing tons of you this week. Can't wait!! xx

Dear Sharon, I spend ages trying to find the most glamorous/interesting pictures of people so thank you for saying that! You too! xx

Dear Jill, me too, she's a great woman. Hope all's well with you xx

Dear SS, apart from the third from bottom they are all very old pics with her original face. Glad you like them. Hope you're getting on brilliantly in France. I must catch up with your blog xx

Dear Miss Drama, thank you kindly xx

Dear Publish My Style, the Bob Mackie dress has always been my favourite, it's fab isn't it? xx

Dear Rosie, thank you! You're lovely. See you this week hopefully xx

Dear Legend, haha! I think they'd be terribly incriminating but funny all the same ; ) xx

Oh wasn't she beautiful? Some really illuminating quotes there too - it's easy to make fun of all the plastic surgery etc but some of those quotes really help explain why she's taken the steps she has.
